Use advice for data set | This dataset refers to the production of 1 kWh of thermal energy from natural gas low-temperature. The data set is intended for the use of final energy acc. EnEV as reference. The final energy acc. EnEV already takes into account system losses and system efficiency as well as power supply and power consumption, which is why this is not included in this data set. Therefore, the combustion process is calculated with 100% efficiency. To calculate the life cycle assessment results at building level, the indicator results have to be multiplied with the final energy demand acc. EnEV. Note: the calorific value technology has higher methane emissions than the low temperature technology. With the same efficiency, this results in a slightly lower global warming potential for low-temperature technology compared to calorific value technology. |
Technical purpose of product or process | Thermal energy from natural gas is used for heating a building or technical processes (e.g. drying). |

Technology description including background system | This dataset includes natural gas production, transportation and combustion. Since final energy gem. EnEV is provided as a reference, a boiler efficiency of 100% was modelled. Usually occurring system losses, as well as power supply and power consumption in relation to boiler operation are not included in this data set. The life cycle assessment is dominated by the combustion process. |
